Nissan enters the Leaf in the NYC Marathon
Looks like Nissan runs New York City. Or, at least, it did run the City recently. As it turns out, Nissan’s all-electric Leaf served as the pace car for the world famous ING New York City Marathon on November 7. Very smart of Nissan, since there can’t be a better show of “green” people power than 44,000 folks taking to the streets to jog 26.2 miles though the the five boroughs of the Big Apple. I use the word “jog” loosely. While some did indeed jog, others took on the course in wheelchairs, on crutches, and via arm-powered bikes. I even saw some blind racers who were being led by enthusiastic volunteers. The marathon also attracted its fair share of costumed crusaders– something I wouldn’t have expected. In fact, I was so shocked to see a huge “rhino” darting past me that I didn’t get to my camera fast enough. I did, however, get some shots of the innovative Nissan Leaf noise-makers that were passed out amongst the spectators. I definitely used mine to cheer a few folks on. Hey, with $130,000 being awarded for first place, every participant deserved a bit of encouragement. Plus, it made me feel less lazy. Slightly.
