Nissan’s 100% electric car takes on a mountain

On June 26, a 100% electric Nissan LEAF will compete in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with veteran off-road truck racing champion Chad Hord behind the wheel. The LEAF will compete in the production class for electric vehicles and, other than the removal of seats and carpets to make room for safety equipment (roll cage, racing seats and safety harnesses), the LEAF will be very close to the way it left the factory.  The race is run on a 12.42 mile course with 156 turns that begins at 9,390 feet and finishes at the 14,110 foot summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs. The event draws approximately 35,000 spectators. See photos from previous competitions below.
