There was lots to see at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit but, contrary to popular belief, cars were not the only thing to experience. Thanks to General Motors there was a fascinating panel on diversity in the auto industry at large and at specifically at General Motors. Jocelyn K. Allen moderated the panel of GM heavyweights that included Eric Peterson, Reginald E. Humphrey, Megan Stooke, Lori Wingerter and Ken Barrett, who is GM’s Chief Diversity Officer. The panelists touched on a wide range of issues but perhaps the central idea can best be summed up by something Ms. Stooke said, “We see diversity in media … as a critical opportunity.” Indeed.
